It is possible to increase the number neurons
Biologists have successfully reactivated dormant cells from mice. This is a promising treatment for neurodegenerative diseases.

A scientific discovery made in Switzerland’s French-speaking region seems promising for the treatment and prevention of neurodegenerative diseases. According to a press release, a team of biologists from the Universities of Geneva and Lausanne (UNIL), they have succeeded in increasing the number of neurons in the brains of both adult and elderly mice.
Stem cells can continuously produce duplicates of themselves and give rise differentiated cells with more specific functions. Neural stem cells are responsible for building the brain in embryonic development. They also generate all the cells of central nervous systems, including neurons.
However, there are some areas in the adult brain that contain quiescent (“dormant”) neurons stem cells. These cells can be reactivated and reactivated to create new neurons. It is still not clear how the transition from quiescence and proliferation occurs. Scientists from UNIL, UNIGE, and UNIL have discovered how to activate and wake up neural stem cells.
Throughout your entire life
Even better, biologists have been able to increase the number of neurons in the brains and brains of older mice. These results, published in Science Advances, are promising for treatment of depression and neurodegenerative diseases.
As we age, our ability to create new neurons is reduced. Surprisingly, however neural stem cells can still be found in certain brain regions long after the brain is fully formed. They can also produce new neurons throughout their lives. This biological phenomenon is called adult neurogenesis and it is essential for certain functions such as learning processes.
And memory.
